Scott Law is a Portland, Oregon based guitarist, singer and songwriter dedicating his life to music through live performance, improvisation and his own compositions. As a solo artist and well-traveled accompanist, Scott’s intuitive musicianship, articulate tone and deep repertoire welcome the unpredictable with exhilarating results.

Law’s sound and style are well-spoken of rock, jazz, blues and folk music forms with “The reliability of a musician you can always trust… a continuator of the (timeless) scene that exploded in San Francisco in the mid-60's, and who, apart from being an extraordinary guitarist and a warm singer, always gives off a good vibe. A quality that, although not necessary, always adds up... a lot.” (Dirty Rock Magazine, OCT 2023)

Mentored by extensive stage experience with bassist Phil Lesh of The Grateful Dead, Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia Band) and pioneering violinist Darol Anger (Republic Of Strings), Law’s quick ear and keen knack for elevating the potency of any collaboration creates pathways for audience connection. Whether curating unique cover takes or his own songs and instrumentals onstage, his joy for creating sound and bringing people together radiates.

Law has also performed, recorded and/or written music with Brokedown In Bakersfield, Cosmic Twang, Nicki Bluhm, Bob Weir, The String Cheese Incident, Aoife O’Donovan, Bill & Jilian Nershi, The Mother Hips, Peter Rowan, Tim Bluhm, The Travelin' McCourys, Keller Williams, Tony Furtado, Everyone Orchestra and many others.

Two solo album releases are now available for streaming; “Black Mountain” (2013), and “Living Room” (2009). New recorded releases are in progress for 2024.

SCOTT LAW & ROSS JAMES' COSMIC TWANG

Scott Law & Ross James first met at Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, and have been blazing a trail through their own blend of psychedelic country rock n’ roll music ever since. They share a passion for pushing musical boundaries, and have an amazing sense of improvisation and connection. On any given night you will hear the influences of Bill Monroe, Merle Haggard, The Grateful Dead, or the Velvet Underground running through their music. Cosmic Twang are recognized for their stellar sit-ins, and their unique ability to bring those guests into their musical fold. Memorable collaborations have included Phil Lesh, Dave Schools, Nicki Bluhm, Stu Allen and Cass McCombs.

BROKEDOWN IN BAKERSFIELD

Brokedown in Bakersfield is a collective of acclaimed West Coast artists joining forces in a spirited tribute to the Bakersfield sound: California country music made raw and rocking, spiked with twang and sweetened with heartfelt harmonies. First appearing to hundreds of music fans on a sunny Saturday morning at the 2011 High Sierra Music Festival, the group features Lebo (pedal steel); Scott Law (Telecaster); singer Nicki Bluhm (of Gramblers fame); Tim Bluhm of the Mother Hips (vocals, acoustic guitar); and the ALO rhythm section of Steve Adams and Dave Brogan. Drawing from the powerful songbooks of Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Gram Parsons and more, Brokedown in Bakersfield showcases the striking songwriting and instrumentation of guitar-slinging country sounds that added oil to the Dust Bowl life of ‘60s-era Southern California -- on the road, in the truck, out the back, and at the honky tonk.

BANJO KILLERS

Scott Law and national banjo champion Tony Furtado team up as a duo calling themselves THE BANJO KILLERS! This collaboration between two of the west coast's finest and most individual musician-songwriters is a side-project with serious mojo. Hurling everything they’ve got including, mandolin, slide-guitar, banjo and an assortment of flatpicks, thumbpicks and fingerpicks at the notion, Tony and Scott recant a vast arsenal of original songs and traditional standards and actually no banjos get hurt in the process.
